I ate at this restaurant starting in 2001, before 9/11. I had so much memory here and even though I don't live in Houston long term anymore, I always come eat here at least once whenever I'm in Houston. This is one thing that's always in my mind when I think about Houston. It's bitter sweet to learn that this restaurant is closing, but I fully understand and support the reason. I really wish the staff and maybe the chef's son can continue the legacy, either here or elsewhere in Houston, as I know even some of the staff worked here for years. If there is plan, please keep us updated!!! I really appreciate the owner and staff running this place for this long and letting us having so much great memories and great food here. p.s. I still remember the wood block print of the Samurai flying a kite in the restroom. I used to be afraid of it as a kid.

I never visited this place when I lived in the area but when i pass by all the time. Now that it's finally closing I had to try it. I wish i came sooner. I'm not a fan of the limited parking but it's Montrose. The food was excellent but I would say it did take A.LONG.TIME! We got there at 1220p. Sat at 1pm. Ordered at 120pm. The food slowly trickled out at 140pm. Finished our meal at 240pm. Since they are closing I didn't fully mind the wait. The food was great. Will miss them. May even try to return one more time if I can. To the owner: Happy Retirement!! You deserve it!

So I first found out about this restaurant by reading an article. The article discussed the authenticity of the owners being Japanese and the authenticity of the cuisine as well as how well renowned it is in Houston and beyond. So you can imagine how excited I was when I got to try it! I ended up ordering the salmon skin sushi along with tamago-yaki sushi. The sushi was amazing! It wasn't the prettiest presentation, which was a little surprising, but it made up for it in taste. Expecially the rice! I also got to try the futomaki and yakisoba with chicken. The futomaki - my friend mentioned that this is more of a traditional Japanese sushi and it was delicious! It was different in that it was vegetarian and had mushrooms and fish powder, which was actually sweet! Very different but very delicious! She said this place had the best futomaki - better than other places she'd tried. Finally, I got to try the Yakisoba with chicken. Wow, really good! The noodles and the seasoning. Perfect combination and loved the noodles. It also had red ginger on top which added a nice flavor to the dish. Can't wait to come back and try more!

Came here on a Saturday night around 6:30 and it was already so busy. We were lucky enough to get the last spot in the parking lot - it's a pretty small parking lot so probably better to come on the earlier side. There was a line out the door, but we got seated quickly because we opted for the outdoor seating. They have a good variety of options on their menu and pretty reasonable prices. We got the takowasa and ika maruyaki as appetizers and they were both so good. I thought that the raw octopus marinated in wasabi was really unique and loved the flavour. We also got the curry udon and yaki udon, both of which were also solid. The food and service were great and we'll definitely be back.

I came here on a Saturday and it was about an hour before they closed at 2pm. I got pretty lucky because I didn't have to wait too long for a table. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I enjoyed the attentive service they provided. I wish I knew about this japanese restaurant sooner! Everything I ordered, it came out delicious. It's super authentic in taste and made me miss Japan. I've never tasted a better Hamachi Kama anywhere until this spot here. It made me fall in love all over. The fish was very tender and juicy grilled. The lemon added an excellent zesty flavor. I was curious about their handrolls, so I opted for the spider crab one. That thing was so freshly fried and my goodness it made me want to cry. The sashimi barely had any fishy taste and I actually liked it; I rarely eat super raw seafood. I ordered the grilled salmon bento box. Each section of the bento box was well thought out. I literally devoured everything. I felt good and my stomach was happy. The restaurant is small but they can cater easily up to a group of 4. Parking can be difficult so plan ahead to try and get here early.

It's a cozy restaurant with options to dine in or outdoors (if you don't like the street view and mosquitos avoid patio, that's way one star down). Not much parking space. The staff is nice and welcoming. It's a great place for a decent price sushi with a variety of other options of Japanese cuisine, good for a brunch or a dinner. Overall food is great, worth the try! Also, don't miss the mango ice cream!

Have gone during lunch and dinner. Lunch special - anything but the grilled fish boxes are fine. The grilled fish isn't deboned and do not have the patience to sift through bones to get meat. Dinner - Chirashi is my go to, can't go wrong besides classics. Always friendly service Never any issue on getting table for walk ins Affordable sushi option without sacrificing quality

Ambiance: This is a cozy restaurant with indoor outdoor seating. Service was flawless. Food: We started off with some yummy edamame. Salmon skin roll,Crazy, dragon, shaggy were all fresh and delicious. Godzilla needs special mention, this is my top pick of our lunch. Definitely going back for Godzilla and ofcourse to try out other options. Parking: They have ample parking in the back.
